Sphinx Virtuosi | Community Engagement Activities

The Sphinx Virtuosi is one of the nation's most dynamic professional chamber orchestras. Comprised of 18 of the nation's top Black and Latinx classical soloists, these alumni of the internationally renowned Sphinx Competition come together each season as cultural ambassadors to reach new audiences. The mission of the Sphinx Organization is transform lives through the power of diversity in the arts. With that goal in mind, the Virtuosi are fiercely committed to engaging with communities during the tour.

There are a number of ways in which the Virtuosi can reach your community including:

  • School performance with a string quartet or quintet from the Sphinx Virtuosi featuring selections from their touring repertoire, introductions to musical concepts highlighted in those selections, and an opportunity to get to know the players better. The Virtuosi can gear the performance towards elementary, middle, or high school students.

  • Open rehearsal with a Q&A session with the players following the rehearsal

  • Pre-concert talk moderated by someone from your organization

  • Side-by-side rehearsal with a string orchestra

  • Panel discussion of issues related to music and cultural diversity

  • Masterclasses with principal musicians

  • Instrumental coaching
