The artists on our roster are known for their artistic excellence, fertile imaginations, limitless creativity, and warm personalities. They are emerging stars and established, venerated household names.

We take special pride in working personally with presenters and our artists to develop innovative programs, special projects, and unique collaborations. As a full-service management we offer assistance with all concert logistics, including travel; we handle the complicated details of work permits and tax issues; and we provide full program information and notes for every performance.

Melvin Kaplan has been for more than fifty years one of America’s most influential forces in chamber music, both as a renowned performer and as manager, teacher, lecturer, and writer. As a soloist, he has premiered works by Vaughan Williams, Ezra Laderman, Hugh Aitken, Gunther Schuller, Mel Powell, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Jean Francaix. On the faculty of

the Juilliard School for thirty years, Mel was also for many years featured regularly as a lecturer/performer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He founded the New York Chamber Soloists, Festival Winds, and Vermont Mozart Festival.

John Zion joined Melvin Kaplan, Inc., in 2008. He was recently named one of the “Rising Stars in the Performing Arts” by Musical America, and has been invited to speak at the Manhattan School of Music and APAP’s Young Performers Career Advancement Program.  Before coming to Melvin Kaplan, Inc., he performed regularly as a violinist with orchestras throughout New England and toured Vietnam with his string quartet.

John continues to perform occasionally with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Summer Music Festival Orchestra, and New York Chamber Soloists. Originally from Chicago, John studied violin performance and history at the Hartt School of Music and Lawrence University.

Kate joined Melvin Kaplan, Inc., in 2006, after returning home to Vermont from San Francisco. A graduate of Deerfield Academy and Brown University, where she studied history and creative writing, Kate spends her free time with her three young children, husband, and large, exuberant dog.

Kate serves on her local school board as well as on the local library’s board of trustees, is learning to skateboard, and loves reading, cooking, and running. Trained as a pianist, she is enjoying the opportunity to pass on her love of all kinds of music to her kids.

Kim joined Melvin Kaplan, Inc. in 2012.  Originally from Milwaukee, she graduated from Boston University with a major in French Language and Literature and a minor in Art History.  After graduation she taught English in Lyon, France for two years.

As a newcomer to Vermont, she is enjoying discovering all that the state has to offer, and spends her time biking, hiking, reading, and visiting her boyfriend in Montreal.

Sharon joined MKI in 1993, with a background in piano and travel. After working in the Burlington office for many years, she moved to Cape Cod and now works from home. She has two cats and two dogs, who often help with the office duties. Most of her spare time is spent outdoors enjoying nature, or indoors working on jewelry or crafts.

She loves living near the ocean, however, likes to get back to the lake and the mountains of Vermont as often as possible

Katie joined Melvin Kaplan, Inc. in 2013. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in music education and has been teaching strings since 2001. Katie, her husband, and two pugs recently moved to Vermont and are enjoying getting to know the area.

In her free time she gardens, hikes, kayaks, skis, and plays violin and viola.
