Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, had a gift for both music and playacting.  In 1747, she founded what was called the Théâtre des Petits-Appartements. There, in front of courtesans, she would perform plays and opera works for the entertainment of Louis XV. The concerts were aimed at a small private network. The Théâtre des Petits-Appartements' composers were the most famous at that time and one can highlight, among others, names as Cardinal Destouches, Francoeur, de Lalande, Mondonville, Mouret, Lully, Rameau and Rebel. Some of the performed pieces were written exclusively for the theatre, while others were part of famous works.
